Four men and one woman attacked and robbed a man while he was walking with his three grandchildren Thursday night in Athens.
Athens-Clarke County police said Friday they are still searching for the suspects. But the man doesn’t remember much of what happened, their description or in which direction they fled.
The incident happened between 9 and 9:30 p.m. near the intersection of Nellie B. Avenue and Vine Street, Sgt. Jay Butt said.
Investigators said Mr. Paul Cooper, 49, was walking with his three juvenile grandchildren when he was approached by four men and one woman, asking for change.
“As he reached into his pocket he was attacked by the group,” Sgt. Butt said. “They jumped on him and took the money.”
The man didn’t remember all that was done to him, but police said his face was red and swollen.
The suspects took $60 from the man and fled. None of the children were injured and Mr. Cooper did not have to be transported to the hospital, Sgt. Butt said.
