Cory Johnson’s album “The Legend of Zelda” is a post-rock style rearrangement of the original “The Legend of Zelda” soundtrack by Koji Kondo.
The original soundtrack is of course an iconic one, “The Legend of Zelda” is one of the most popular Nintendo games of all time, and variations of the game have been made for almost every video game console Nintendo has ever produced. If Cory Johnson’s album wavered to much from the original score, or was simply recorded in a half-hearted fashion, video game junkies everywhere would not hesitate to globally pan him.
Luckily for Cory Johnson his version of the score is amazing! Never does he try to take the songs into an inappropriate mood for the settings, rather he expounds on the original pieces, simply expanding the feel and bringing it to a more emotionally tangible place than the 8 bit digital soundtrack could do.
Using the original soundtrack as a firm groundwork Cory Johnson has created a classic and beautiful piece, rich with organic instrumentation and real world depth.
