From the outside, acting can seem like the perfect job because of the huge money on offer and the lifestyle available. In reality, acting involves a lot of long hours on set, shooting the same scenes over and over again. When it comes to acting, Hollywood is the toughest nut to crack. Actors who have had long, successful careers in Hollywood become household names. For those actors who have not yet reached the same level of fame, life can be very tough. Here are some Hollywood up-and-comers who are on their way to reaching the top.
Emma Stone has been around the Hollywood scene for a few years now but has only recently broken through due to her exceptional performance in “The Amazing Spider-Man.” Stone initially was involved in bit-part roles in television, but it wasn’t until she joined the cast of “Superbad” that she made her mark on the movie world. Playing the role of a supporting cast member, Jules, Stone won her first movie award, Exciting New Face from the Young Hollywood Awards. After this introduction into Hollywood, Stone received minor roles with a number of films over the next couple of years. She received her big break in 2009 when she managed to secure a lead role in “Zombieland,” for which she was nominated for multiple movie awards. However, Stone’s Hollywood career really took off when she played the lead roles in movies such as “Easy A” and “The Help.” As a result of this success, she was offered the female lead role in “The Amazing Spider-Man.” Stone received plenty of rave reviews for the performance of Gwen Stacy. In the short-term future, Stone has signed on the play a lead role in “Gangster Squad,” where she will play opposite Ryan Gosling and work alongside actors such as Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, and Michael Pena.
A dual-nationality British-American citizen, Garfield began his acting career with stage performances in Britain. After this, Garfield moved over to America to try to make it in Hollywood. To get his foot in the door, Garfield managed to secure some minor television roles. Before long, Garfield had ventured out into film and was cast in roles on a number of small films such as “Lions for Lambs,” “The Other Boleyn Girl,” and “Red Riding.” It wasn’t until 2010, however, that “Never Let Me Go” and “The Social Network” catapulted Garfield into the spotlight. Garfield received many nominations for both of these films and won the Hollywood Award for Breakthrough Actor for both films, the London Film Critics’ Circle Award for Best British Supporting Actor, and the Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actor. In 2012, Garfield was assigned the lead role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in “The Amazing Spider-Man.” After the success of this movie, Garfield chose to go back in stage work with “Death of a Salesman.” At this stage, there are no upcoming movie roles on the cards for Garfield, but when he decides to comeback to Hollywood, there are sure to be many acting opportunities available for him.
As the younger sister of acclaimed Hollywood actress Dakota Fanning, it is easy for people to mistake Elle for her sister. Because of the success of her older sister, though, Fanning has had a lot of expectation to live up to. She began acting before she turned three years old. Over the years, she has appeared on television, playing in series’ such as “CSI: Miami,” “CSI: NY,” and “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.” Because Fanning began acting at an early age, she has grown accustomed to the spotlight. In 2011, Fanning landed a lead role in “Super 8,” which went on to claim numerous movie awards. At the age of 14, Fanning has grown out of the role of a child actor and is now able to play roles that are more suited to adult audiences. Over the next couple of years, Fanning is lined up to play the lead roles in films such as “Ginger & Rosa,” “Vivaldi,” and “Maleficent.” The career of Elle Fanning is certainly on the rise and much more can be expected of her over the next decade or so.
