In scorching weather as Los Angeles has been privileged to experience of late, it takes every ounce of energy to muster the courage to face the outdoors; and thus it was yesterday evening, in the dwindling embers of the twilight sun, that I gingerly stepped out of my heavily air-conditioned car, bolted into the lobby of the gorgeous London Hotel just off the Sunset Strip and rallied for the trip up…
As the elevator ascended and the door opened, I felt the first blast of oppressive heat, but forged forth… and then, as if by some magical transformation that only Harmonie could have orchestrated, I stepped out onto the open, roof top, pool deck and felt a cooling breeze cross my face… the weather, high atop the strip, coupled with one of the most magnificent views, was absolutely and utterly perfect.
Harmonie Krieger is the gorgeous, vivacious and always welcoming head of special events for Modern Luxury’s Angeleno Magazine; one of the city’s top “glossy” magazines, which in the days of diminishing publishing empires, says a great deal. Not only is the magazine a full-size, full color, high-end print; they are a constant force on the society and celebrity scene with private, incredibly well attended events; reinforcing their position as an arbiter of style and status.
As I wandered through the Poolside Beauty event, I saw my favorite New York Times fashion columnist Lord Justin Howard, the stunning Joyce Chow, the ultra glamorous designer Julia Clancey, my best friend and very saucy business partner Jessica Kill and my dearest, gorgeous, fashionista Miss Jenny Leeser. A few minutes later Marc Chamberlain rolled through, looking terrific with his new hair cut that we collectively swooned over and brought me over to the Burke Williams Spa set up where a lovely esthetician treated me to a paraffin treatment on my hands… which still feel like silk! Loved! Jenny introduced me to a wonderful British woman by the name of Emma Willis who is managing the German imported “make-up on the go” store, Blushington (and yes, my amazing Givenchy goody bag does have a certificate to try that – amongst other special treats – so I shall duly report); and Joyce introduced me to Art Abenoza whom I understand represents some of the chicest new clothing lines coming into LA… will also be checking on that.
Moments before I tried to discretely slide out the door, to do, as I am frequently told by Lord Howard, my “Countess’ Austrian Exit” – the swim wear fashion show started and I was caught… front and center. The models were absolutely gorgeous and Ashley Paige designs, lovely. Mr. Chamberlain, whom I happened to be standing next to, was very serious in his assessment of each as they passed… “stunning”, “gorgeous”, “wow”… the basic expletives a man may share when an utterly spectacular glamazon slithers past wearing slightly more than a thread.
As the show ended our perennial favorite, the bionic ninja, Anton Kasabov (Tekken) wandered in looking every part movie star and maybe not what one would expect for a five time world Tae Kwon Do champion and 55 time gold medal winner for kick-boxing. While Jenny took a moment to introduce Anton to the event, Jessica fawned over the incredibly dashing Jeff Goldblum (Jurassic Park) and I went in search of one of the loveliest recording artists I have ever met, Ms. Samantha Mumba (The Time Machine). Sadly, I missed both, but they clearly left their mark as the entire, packed party was buzzing with their names.
All in all, an incredible night. Harmonie out did herself and there was not a soul who left with anything but the highest of compliments. The weather? I did not even notice it after arriving… a true indication of how distracted and how much fun the evening was.
