Here is a list and brief description of upcoming events for August. The month is pretty busy with 18 events, 9 of which are on August 11th. With this many events, there is something for everyone and still plenty of time for other events to be scheduled.
On August 2nd, Undercacher is hosting Famous Pairs Series: Baseball and Cribbage? under GC3NGTA. This is more of a social event with a cribbage tournament to keep things fun. Event run time is 5:30pm to 8pm and with 12 logged attendees, it looks like it will be a fun night.
On August 4th, bflentje is hosting The Great Northern Meet and Greet under GC3NY55. This event will be held at the northern most point, accessible by vehicle, in the lower 48 states. Bring your passport as if you are not catching a ride on one of the two boats across the Lake of the Woods, you will have to drive through Canada for this one, which would allow some to add those Canada souvenirs. On August 6th, King Boreas is hosting his monthly event, Birthday Mondays (August 2012) – A Social Event under GC3K35Z. Even if your birthday is not in August, you are still more than welcome to attend.
On August 10th, ArcherDragoon is hosting BYOBL: Global Lazy Day under GC3K2YM. BYOBL stands for bring your own bag lunch. This is a quick 15 minute lunch hour event in the Rochester area and is all about being lazy on these hot summer days.
On August 11th, onionpond will be hosting the 2nd Annual Hipster Memorial Kubb Tournament under GC3QNGM. Starting at 10:00 AM in Moorhead, the attendees will partake in a game played by the Vikings. See listing for more details.
On August 11th, with the collaboration of Mrs. Mizzou, Boreal Walker, ArcherDragoon and a few locals is, The Beginning – Fuel for the Soul with Maple Syrup. This is a 24 hour road trip adventure around Minnesota, starting in Maple Grove at midnight, with eight scheduled stops and seven other scheduled events, see below for other events and see listing for more details. There is also a mysterious related web page on all the event listings of an unpublished cache, hmm. Could this be a surprise cache at the end of the road perhaps?
These are the other seven stops on the state wide road trip caching adventure. The second stop in this adventure is in Hinckley for Toby Hinck Just Fired the Ley Line. Then on to Virginia for Yes Virginia, There is an Event this Early. From there, the crew treks to Bemidji for a 15 minute stop for Flashing Paul Bunyan. Then it’s off to Crookston for lunch at An Irish Lunch of Golden Eagles. Then trail along to Fergus Falls to watch mini-Mizzou Plays with an Otter. After that, it’s off to Redwood Falls for Red Pizza that Falls through Woods Ranch, that sounds yummy. Then to the final stop in Rochester for the Grande Finale – The Final Refueling.
On August 18th, you can attend King Boreas’ 2nd International Geocaching Day – A Social Event under GC3CW8F for some geocaching talk and to celebrate this “Geocaching Holiday” and obtain a souvenir for attending an event or finding a cache this day.
On August 18th, grab your canoe and attend bflentje’s Minnesota’s 5th Annual Canoe-in Geocaching Event under GC3JQGM. Take a trip down the Cannon River for some high terrain caches and some sweet corn afterwards. See listing for more details, and this event will get you a souvenir for International Geocaching Day.
On August 18th, try your luck with Guitar Solo and the Cache-Luck 2012 event in Edina under GC3Q90Y. Bring a cache; take a cache is the idea of this event with a theme cache container. See event listing for more details. This event will also get you souvenir for International Geocaching Day.
On August 19th, come celebrate and mourn with NOSNOW and Shadow’s Friend, for Shadow’s Birthday! under GC3KFFC. Shadow is a 10 year old Holland Lop rabbit that has recently passed due to illness. But Shadow’s Friend and NOSNOW still encourage you to partake in all the rabbit games that are planned.
On August 25th, head to Aitkin for the MnGCA Breakfast Buddies – Aitkin at the Birchwood Inn for some breakfast, talk and eventually caching, hosted by the MnGCA.
