Hardware and Design
The Motorola Atrix HD is one of the better designed phones Motorola has released as it has a very similar feel to the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx. Which isn’t a bad thing at all as it has the carbon fiber backing along with a thin profile. However it doesn’t have the 3300mAh battery from the Maxx as it has 1780mAh battery which isn’t bad but isn’t all that great either It’ll get you about 8 hours of moderate use. It also has has a 4.5 inch HD Color Boost display which is by far the BEST screen I’ve ever seen on a Motorola smartphone. And it doesn’t have any capacitive buttons like the Galaxy Nexus it uses strictly the on-screen buttons.
My Score 7.8
Performance and Operating System
This phone has a dual-core 1.5 processor and 1GB of RAM which is great and it handles everything very well overall, as I have no complaints. It also has Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and it’s pretty much as close to stock Android (Nexus) as you can get aside from some widgets and some additional icons. I also like the widgets Motorola added with the clocks it adds a nice touch.
My Score 8.2
The camera on the Atrix HD is an 8.0 megapixel shooter with auto focus and it performs reasonably well. I don’t feel it’s better then the Samsung Galaxy S III, HTC One X or iPhone 4S but it’s not bad at all. It’s definitely the best camera on a phone I’ve seen from Motorola.
My Score 7.5
Network and Radio Performance
This phone runs on AT&T’s 4G LTE network and if it’s available in your area be prepared to have a great experience as the download and upload speeds are great and makes using all of the network related features on the phone a pleasure. And the reality is that if your using a lot of Google products on a smartphone and the network speed is slow your just plain handcuffed. In my area AT&T’s 4G LTE is Fantastic!
Overall the Motorola Atrix HD is one of the better smartphones you can buy right now as I’ve seen it as low and $49 and AT&T lists it at $99. I recommend checking this phone out if you don’t want a phone with a lot of software modifications as this phone is the closest to a Nexus in terms of it’s software layout.
