LINCOLNVILLE, MAINE — As soon as autumn comes to Maine, the sailors leave the coast, most of the tourists who have jammed Route 1 all Summer have gone home, and what’s left are residents, music, and wine.
That’s when Cellardoor Winery here celebrates with an annual weekend celebration of its harvest, inviting everyone to dance, stomp on grapes and play games, all of course while enjoying the fruits of the vine. This year Vinfest 2012 will be held from September 28 through 30, with the theme of the Roaring Twenties. It will probably be the last gasp of outdoor fun and games before Maine hunkers down for colder weather.
The dinner dance, in a specially constructed tent on the winery property here near Camden, about a three and three-quarter-hour drive from Boston, on Friday begins with an hors d’oeuvres reception followed by a multi-course meal paired with the appropriate Cellardoor wines, prepared by Chefs Michael Salmon of The Hartstone Inn, David Turin of David’s & David’s 388, Melissa Kelly of Primo and Geoffroy Deconnick of Natalie’s at the Camden Harbour Inn. The evening’s entertainment features Swingshift, Jesse Campbell from NBC-TV’s “The Voice,” and the Commodores. Although the dinner dance is already sold out, a limited number of concert and dessert tickets are still available for $65 per person.
Saturday’s all-day event is for the whole family and is called A Celebration of Fall. It includes live music, a specially prepared barbeque paired with wines, grape stomping, winery tours, chef demonstrations, rides, and games. Tickets are $10 per person.
Sunday afternoon is A Gatsby Affair, and the all-ages event includes Charleston and other hepcat dance lessons with Roddy Caravella, followed by a tea dance featuring Michael Arenella & His Dreamland Orchestra. There will be croquet, badminton and tug of war games on the lawn. Tickets are $50 per person and $10 for students 18 and under.
Cellardoor is an award-winning destination winery on 68 acres, which produces a broad selection of red and white varietals. A branch of Cellardoor Winery can be found at the Villa in Rockport, Maine.
