Back to school shopping is upon us. As usual, as we gear toward the end of summer, it sneaks up on us like a thief and next thing you know, our kids are back in school, or its the week when school is due to start and we find ourself doing last minute crunch shopping.
If your family is anything like mine, the value of saving as much as possible is essential. With a household of six to shop for, all at once of course, it definitely adds up. New Yorkers, our public school students will be back to school in a mere three weeks. If you haven’t started shopping yet, this is definitely the time to get started. The closer it gets to the start date of school, the less “major” sales will be going on which means you’ll save less and less.
Since we still have a little bit of time in front of us, I highly suggest that you start some of your shopping, as much as possible anyway, online. Some of the best stores that present awesome savings during the school launch, like Walmart, Target and Staples are partnered with this incredible company called Ebates.
If you’re unfamiliar with Ebates, then I highly suggest that you take the time to sign up and get started. Not only will they offer you amazing discounted coupons, like free shipping, percentages off, etc, but each partnered store has a value cash back that goes into your account. Every three months, they will send you either a check or a paypal payment (once you’ve accrued over $5) Plus, if you tell a friend and they sign up and shop, you get paid in monetary as well as gift values. There’s truly nothing to lose and everything to gain.
Currently, Walmart is running a promotion this week on their school supplies and school uniforms for back to school shopping. With free shipping on all school supplies and uniforms as well as college furniture for your older kids that are transitioning to living on a college campus, you’ll get some tremendous savings that will certainly add up. By the way, many of their supplies start at 97 cents and you can earn 2% cash back.
Staples also has their mega sale going on right now, where many relevant school supplies, like composition books for just ten cents (I buy about 30 of these at the beginning of each school year, so paying $3 instead of $30 really makes a HUGE difference!), packs of pencils for a quarter a pop, free packs of pens, fifty cents sharpeners and so much more. These sales kick in when you spend a mere five bucks. Not only that, but they have a 15% back to school shopping pass that you can sign up for (limited time only, so get it now before its gone). You’ll save 15% every single time you shop until 9/15. It’s a $10 investment, but totally worth its weight in savings. So rack up online and don’t forget to earn your 4% cash back, or go into your local staples store and get started. Save in abundance on all of your supply essentials.
Besides school supplies, we also need to shop for clothing, shoes and accessories for the kids. For the smaller kids, I always suggest using Payless to outfit their feet. They’re decent quality shoes and the younger kids seem to care less about the brands that are on their feet since they’re busy ripping and running, scuffing and staining their shoes during each recess break. You can print out this coupon to save 15% on your next purchase. Use in stores or online (entering the coupon code) and remember to earn your 3% cash back if you’re shopping online. Also, save on shipping by using your savings and the ease of shopping online but shipping for FREE to your local store for pick up. Hurry, this coupon expires at the end of August. Use coupon code 78265 to save $10 off any $25 purchase through 9/19 as well as code 71580 to save 20% through 8/31.
For the bigger kids, we know how important looking fresh can be to them. One of my favorite spots to shop online for the hottest in footwear for my boys (they’re heavy into sneakers) is Eastbay. (They’re a sister company of Foot Locker with even bigger savings and coupon offers). They always offer free shipping discounts when you spend over $50 or $75. You can find the discount shipping codes right on their website and sign up to receive their catalog. You’ll find that their clearance section is outstanding! You can find some of the hottest sneakers at up to 60% off as they get new inventory and discount to get rid of the old, so I highly suggest that you take the time to check out this site.
I also love utilizing DSW and their great rewards system that earn you savings and free items during their promotional runs. You’re guaranteed to find your school bound kiddies (and yourself if you please) some great shoes, sneakers or both.
Kohl’s is running a great promotion right now where you’ll save 15% off every order (both in stores and online) and they’re offering a flat rate of 99 cents shipping as well as free shipping online with a $50 purchase. You can print your 15% pass directly through their website. JC Penney is also offering free shipping with any order over $50 and FREE haircuts to kids in grades K-6! (Call 855 527 5427 to reserve your spot while this promotion lasts. It’ll definitely be first come, first serve). They also have 1000’s of clearance items available online and they also offer the ability to ship to your local store for absolutely free.
Old Navy has great promotions running, including kids denim for $10 and up and adult jeans for $19 and up. Definitely don’t forget to hit their clearance section as well. Sometimes I can find the best discounts there. Of course, all of the aforementioned stores are affiliates with Ebates, so if you choose to shop online you’ll always save big and earn cash back at the same time.
My other recommendations for back to school sneakers both online as well as in stores are Modells, Sports Authority (sign up online before you go into the store and you’ll get a coupon to save $10 off your $50 purchase, plus a 10% discount code to use online if you so dare to venture into the world of internet shopping) V.I.M and DSW. There are locations for all of these stores all throughout Manhattan and the outer boroughs for your convenience.
Ok folks that’s it for now. I hope I’ve given you some great ideas for getting started on all of your back to school needs. Happy savings, discounts and earnings and have a great school year!
