Few restaurants are so vibrant, but Life Alive Urban Oasis & Organic Cafe in Salem, Massachusetts, which opened this past May, takes vibrancy to a whole new level. The place positively hums with activity and color. Walls are painted honey-gold; accent colors and lighting send a warm glow throughout. An oasis set in the middle of town, Life Alive is a place you can go to relax, feel well taken care of, and eat good-for-you food, too. Clearly, the restaurant is aptly named for a variety of reasons, including their varied menu.
Part of the vibrancy of Life Alive is gained by its owner, Heidi Feinstein, a vivacious, animated, and passionate trained nutritionist who knows what she’s doing, and her other two locations in Cambridge and Lowell prove it. The success of the Salem location, Heidi believes, is separate from her other restaurants. Salemites flocked to the restaurant the first week it was open, and for good reason. She is serving the fresh, organic, and wholesome local food that her customers demand and changing people’s eating habits, one bowl at a time.
Take The Adventurer bowl (yep…another one aptly named). This is healthy, exciting comfort food brought to a whole new level. The Adventurer combines an ample portion of nutritious beets, corn, broccoli, dark greens, shredded cheddar, sprouted legumes, and tamari almonds, over similar portions of quinoa and brown rice. Try adding one of the recommended sides such as squash, avocado, or egg. The bowl is then topped with Sesame Ginger Nama, an enzyme sauce that complements the flavors and aids digestion. You can order The Adventurer, or any of their bowls, as a wrap instead.
Salads positively explode with surprising flavors that include ingredients such as lemon garlic or red-lentil hummus, cranberries, cucumber, granny apples, or shredded carrots, atop fresh spring greens. Grilled wraps boast ingredients like melted cheddar, hard-boiled egg, broccoli, and greens, mixed with healthful Braggs and nutritional yeast.
Going for breakfast instead? Try their wide range of refreshing smoothies and freshly-pressed juices made with organic fruits, spices, and other healthful ingredients guaranteed to set the right pace for your morning. Be sure to try The Crunchy Hippie, a nutritious mix of locally-made granola, dried fruit, and almond milk.
You just can’t go wrong with Life Alive. Any way your order it, the result is one meal that is refreshingly different and extremely satisfying.
