Earlier today, SEGA and game developer Gearbox Studios announced a new multiplayer game mode in Aliens: Colonial Marines. This mode is known as “Escape,” and the objective is as simple as the title would suggest. It sets up a team of 4 human Marines frantically trying to escape the opposing team which consists entirely of the Xenomorph terrors. There is definitely an “end” to the level, so the goal isn’t purely to last longer than the other team.
The Marines must survive the entire match without dying. Therefore, teamwork is a must for the human side of the battle as you should be looking out for your teammates as much as you are looking out for yourself. Once they get to the “evacuation point” in the map, then the Marines would get the victory.
On the opposite side of the match is the Xenomorph squad which will be controlled by 4 players. And they will just keep on coming. To make it interesting there are additions to this group than the Xenomorph “Soldiers” that are best known from the James Cameron “Aliens.” Gearbox has included a few new faces to help create chaos for the opposing Marine unit.
The first is the “Lurker,” which is designed to be an extremely mobile and frustrating target to hit. It is also said to be “able to pin Marines to the ground,” making any Marine’s day a little less than pleasant. It could be assumed that this class could be very low on the attack and/or the defensive scale as that tends to be the norm when it comes to agility classes.
Another newcomer is the “Spitter.” This class can use long range attacks to either damage or – better yet – distract the Marine forces attempting to escape. It’s safe to believe that this class could be the most damaging to both the physical and the mental condition of the Marines. The concept of an Alien spitting acid isn’t new to the Alien franchise. However, this is the first time there will be a Xenomorph that is specifically known for its acid-spitting capabilities, especially since the Xeno’s design makes it unique from the others so it’s recognizable to opposing forces
The “Escape” mode reveal trailer is linked below. **Be advised, the trailer may not be suitable for audiences under 18**
