Boise White Paper, LLC is currently suing the City of Jackson in Clarke County, Alabama for overpayment of taxes.
The Boise White Paper, LLC located at 4585 Industrial Road in Jackson, Alabama is one of the major businesses in the city. The company has over 5,000 employees, many whom live in the City of Jackson. Boise, in Jackson is a paper converting facility. They utilize wood pulp to produce products such as copier paper and craft paper.
Currently the City of Jackson and Boise are involved in a law suit over overpayment of taxes. RDS – Revenue Discovery Systems of Birmingham is also named in the suit. RDS is the corporation that collects tax money for the municipality.
The suit covers taxes paid out from July 1, 2008 to May 31, 2009. It is estimated that over $33,000 were overpaid to Clarke County and more than $77,000 to the City of Jackson. Boise claims that the taxes in question were for paper cores, machine felt and a variety of chemicals used in the process of paper making. Boise also claims that the taxes they paid should have been charged at a lower rate or exempt for those particular products.
Clarke County and the City of Jackson aren’t in agreement with Boise at this time. Since no real resolution has been made the courts will have to make the final determination whether or not Boise overpaid during the time frame in question and if they will be granted a refund for overpayment.
On Tuesday the county commission approved one resolution to include the law firm of Webb and Eley of Montgomery to assist in this dispute. A resolution to this matter is expected to be voiced sometime this week.
