The NHL released its national TV schedule on Aug. 30 and it includes many Boston Bruins games that will be available on nationwide channels, including the matinee Thanksgiving Showdown on Nov. 23, which will be shown on NBC.
Last year, NBC pulled out all the stops to promote the Thanksgiving Showdown between the Bruins and the Detroit Red Wings, even giving them a float in the famous Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade featuring an appearance by Bruins legend and team president Cam Neely. This year, the New York Rangers will make the trip to Boston for the big game on the biggest shopping day of the year. Those who aren’t fans of battling giant crowds for deals on TVs and clothes could consider staying in and watching some battles on the ice instead.
The other Bruins game definitely set to air on NBC is against the Chicago Blackhawks at 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 17, Hockey Day in America, which will become a triple-header with two games on NBC and one on NBC Sports Network.
Three games late in the season could appear on NBC or NBC Sports Network, depending on what the network decides to schedule: March 10 at the Washington Capitals, March 17 at the Pittsburgh Penguins and April 13 at the Buffalo Sabres.
A total of 11 Bruins games are slated to air on NBC Sports Network over the course of the season, including the season opener on Oct. 11 against the Philadelphia Flyers. NBC Sports Network is expanding its hockey coverage this season by offering games on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. In January, they add in Sunday games for four straight nights of hockey every week. They will also provide coverage of all the festivities at the 2013 All-Star Game.
In addition, 15 Bruins games are set to be shown on NHL Network in the United States, starting Nov. 24 against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
NESN will also broadcast every non-exclusive Bruins game.
