A quiet weather pattern continues in the Boston area as we approach the last few days of August. A touch of fall will be in the air Wednesday night as temperatures run unusually cool for this time of year. After a chilly start early Thursday morning the temperatures will rapidly warm up again.
High pressure prevails for the next few days. Initially the high brings in a cool and much less humid air mass, before settling to our south and bringing a return flow of warmer temperatures Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with increasing humidity Friday into Saturday. Some areas will nudge 90 degrees Friday, before readings settle back a little on Saturday.
We do have a cold front in the area by the start of this upcoming weekend as it is expected to cross the local area sometime early Saturday. There is little weather associated with the front, as its only impact will be to drop temperatures back to normal by Sunday. Looking ahead to the holiday we may have to deal with some of the remnants of Isaac by late in the day or at night. With that said expect clouds to be on the increase during Sunday night.
Overall this 5 day period will feature mostly sunny days, with no rain in sight. Our next chance for rainfall will be early next week.
Rainfall deficit: Yesterdays showers had little if any impact on the rainfall deficit in our area. Most of you saw less than a quarter of an inch of rain. The deficit is now -5.26 inches since the start of the year, as reported by the National Weather Service at Logan International Airport in East Boston. With a dry forecast the next 5 days or so the deficit continues to grow and we really do need a few days of steady rainfall, with an inch or two of rain, to help ease the dry conditions.
Hurricane Isaac has made landfall and is moving slowly through Louisiana, with impacts also along the coasts of Alabama and Mississippi. The National Hurricane Center has all the details and you can obtain the latest information on this storm here: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/index.shtml
