I saw God today, as I watched the butterflies freely dancing among the purple and white wildflowers. A distant fawn with a spotted color scheme just beyond the trees watched me as I knelt to pick up the stones glistening thru the babbling brook. In that moment I knew that the presence of the creator was with me. His gentle voice spoke within the wind and the sunshine radiating down on me, was like unto his hand laid upon my shoulder assuring me that his eyes had never left me.
Chaos is the destroyer of tranquility and of peace. The ranting shouts of carnal religionist and disillusioned humanist can so easily strip a lifetime of everything God has to offer us as his children. The battle between what is labeled as good and evil so often consume even the most sincere of us. Where are you today? Can you seem to find the peace and tranquility I speak of here? If not, perhaps your eyes need to refocus on something new.
Can you find God in the picture I have drawn for you. Do you see the master’s hand in everything that lives and breathes, or have things somewhat altered your perception of what reality actually is? Just as we can know a painter by the paintings they create, so also can we understand the character of God by allowing the creation to reveal to us the creator. Is it so hard to shut down the day’s torments and the life’s struggles to capture if but only for a moment, the very essence of the love that molded each and every one of us?
So many, within the modern Christian community have lost touch of the small, but beautiful side of things. We are so stuck on the big picture that we fail to see the beauty that makes up the picture itself. Have you simply stood and imagined what a painter was feeling when they painted the masterpieces that line the walls of thousands of museums? Have you ever stood and wondered what God was feeling when the masterpiece of creation was painted? Do you think God can feel, or is God that real to you?
I have heard so many people in several religions tell me they wish God would speak to them, and reveal the truth to them, just as he has with me. I tell them; it isn’t that God isn’t speaking to you. Or that you can’t see God, but it’s because you were trained to look for something else and that which lies directly in front of you is never even seen but looked over, just as in the little things of the painter’s masterpieces.
To see God you have to be open to see the things that perhaps you would have never even considered before. Often we must empty our preconceived notions of what we expect to see concerning God and open our hearts in pure and trusting behavior. Have you ever just sat and allowed God’s presence to touch you? Yes, God can touch us in our church services, but did you know he can also do so in our own back yards? I urge you to try to see what I am speaking of.
I have said it before, but have you stopped lately to allow God to show you what you seek? Have you been looking for that which has been standing at your door for months? Do you remember the story of Jesus knocking on the praying man’s door that had been asking for God to come into his home? In short, the man was visited three times one night, yet he turned away the visitors each time because he was looking for something he preconceived to be what Jesus would look like. After going all night and the praying man thinking God had not come, he asked why God had failed to come. His answer was somewhat like this. I came and knocked at your door three times and you turned me away each and every time because I was not what you had expected me to be. Have we ever done this?
There is so beauty still left in this world, and the hand of God still weaves new masterpieces on the canvas of creation each day. Stop and simply close your eyes in the quietness that can surround you and allow the spirit of truth to whisper that which chaos would have you never hear.
