Nominations were announced for the 64th Primetime Emmy Awards on July 19, 2012, and CBS Television Network received a total of 60 nods for the 2011-2012 season, the most nominations of any Broadcast Network.
The top program category nominations for CBS included Outstanding Comedy Series for “The Big Bang Theory,” Outstanding Reality Program for “Undercover Boss,” Outstanding Reality-Competition Program for “The Amazing Race,” Outstanding Special Class Programs for “The 54th Annual Grammy Awards” and “The 65th Annual Tony Awards” and Outstanding Variety Special for “The 34th Kennedy Center Honors.”
Among the top acting categories, Jim Parsons of “The Big Bang Theory” and Jon Cryer of “Two and a Half Men” earned Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series nominations. Last year, Jim Parsons won the Emmy and it was presented by former “Men” star Charlie Sheen.
Melissa McCarthy of “Mike & Molly” earned an Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series nomination. McCarthy won the Emmy in 2011. Julianna Margulies of “The Good Wife” was nominated as Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. Margulies won the Emmy in 2011.
Christine Baranski and Archie Panjabi were each nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for their work in “The Good Wife.” Mayim Bialik of “The Big Bang Theory” was nominated as Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.
Guest stars of “The Good Wife” were nominated for their work in the drama. Nominated for Outstanding Guest Actress was Martha Plimpton as Patti Nyholm. Nominated for Outstanding Guest Actors In A Drama Series were Dylan Baker as Colin Sweeney and Michael J. Fox as Louis Canning.
Phil Keoghan garnered a nomination as Outstanding Host for A Reality or Reality-Competition Program for “The Amazing Race.”
CBS also collected nominations in an array of other categories, including outstanding guest actress and actors, directing, writing, art direction, casting, cinematography, picture editing, lighting design/lighting direction, makeup, music direction, original music and lyrics, sound editing, sound mixing, stunt coordination and technical direction/camera work/video control.
