Johnny Gargano, once considered one of the hottest and most sought after stars on the indies said during the weekend Dragon Gate USA shows that “independent wrestling is dying” and that he has chosen to stay with Dragon Gate.
Gargano was on the radar of the WWE but it is believed that the company has backed off the star due to controversy surrounding the step-father of Gargano. Walt Klasinski plead out to a reduced charge of felony battery against a woman after being charged with a number of felonies including sexual battery and rape. Klasinski had been the owner of Pro Wrestling Ohio before his legal trouble began and when he went to jail booker Joe Dombrowski took over the promotion and changed the name to Prime Wrestling.
Prime Wrestling has seen sagging ratings on Sports Time Ohio to the point that the cable channel is considering pulling its wrestling programming. Klasinski has also been seen at a number of events leading many to believe Dombrowski was just keeping the proverbial seat warm for Klasinski. Shows are currently taped in the parking lot at the Klasinski/Gargano owned restaurant and catering business to less than stellar crowds.
Sources indicate that the WWE has went cold on Gargano due to the distraction he would bring and the company currently being scrutinized over their Wellness Program and with Linda McMahon and her bid for Senate.
