The Frisco RoughRiders held the Corpus Christi Hooks at bay for the first eight innings of this most recent series. It’s been the exact opposite since.
The RoughRiders dropped the first two of four games at Whataburger Field, being outscored 20-7 in the last game and three innings alone.
The first game saw Frisco fail to hold a lead in the ninth, 10th and 11th innings in losing 8-7.
The Riders had a 2-0 lead going to the ninth and even added two more then, with Val Majewski doubling in a run and scoring. But Corpus got four in the bottom of the ninth as they loaded the bases, got one run on a Jair Fernandez hit and tied the game on Austin Wales’ three-run double.
The Riders loaded the bases in the 10th and scored when Josh Zeid hit Zach Zaneski – his second straight hit batter. But they got nothing else, and the Hooks tied the game when Drew Muren doubled and scored on a wild pitch from Zach Osborne.
The Riders loaded them again in the 11th and scored two on Chris McGuiness’ hit. But Tim Murphy put two men on before Wales cleared the left field fence for a three-run walk-off home run.
Frisco’s inability to shut down the Hooks carried over to the second game, Corpus scored a 6-0 lead in the first three innings en route to a 12-2 win. Frisco only had one scoreless inning in the game; the Hooks have scored in 11 of their last 12 innings at bat.
Jose Martinez drove in four runs in the game on two home runs, including a two-run shot as part of a three-run third inning. Each of Corpus’ first three hitters had multiple RBI.
Barret Loux will try to find a way to shut down the Hooks in the third game Saturday night.
