Long Island resident and Kentucky native David O. Miller will once again be showcasing techniques for monster graphic art design this Oct. 26, from 7 to 9 p.m. David will join other artists of the Art League of Long Island at the “Art After Dark” seminar. Folks may go to learn some basic techniques from this advanced artist. The demonstration will run from 7 to 8 p.m., while the question and answer period will run from 8 to 9 p.m. Admission is free.
David, who has made his living at graphic art all his life, has worked in such diverse fields as the game industry, NASA and wine companies. An excellent instructor he teacher art classes on Long Island and shares his work at conventions such as I-CON. Some of his covers for Dragon and Dungeon magazine are rated among the most memorable (see slideshow).
David is outspoken and energetic, and has a passion for gaming. His custom work for “Heroscape” has been well received, especially his custom terrain for super heroes. He debuted his “Lost World” pulp adventure board game at TotalCon last year, receiving glowing praise. He also runs adventures from Dark City Games, using the his own, slightly modified version of the original “Melee” and “Wizards” rules from “The Fantasy Trip” series of games.
David’s wife Julie and teen-aged daughter Amy are avid fans of horses and ride frequently. Since Julie is also from Kentucky, the Kentucky Derby is a big holiday in the Miller household. Scott, the youngest Miller at twelve, is a gamer like his dad. The family lives in a beautiful home where David has his studio.
