Internationally-known and down-home Dickson resident Craig Morgan, who’s most recently ridden atop the charts with smash single “This Ole Boy,” bringing along a fun-loving video to boot featuring both a fetching dog and a fetching lady (in the form of Law and Order actress Angie Harmon. He also guest-starred on Rizzoli and Isles, the TNT drama she co-stars in. Click here for more info). Not only hoping listeners will be all ears when it comes to his current single, “Corn Star,” (written by the indescribably gottahavable Jeffrey Steele and majorly talented Shane Minor), he’s also hoping they’ll listen up and lend a hand for his multi-activitied 6th Annual Charity Weekend on August 11-12th. Sponsored by local auto fair fixture Carnival Kia, the event promises to be wheel fun for all.
First, get your motor running for motocross: On Saturday, August 11, motocross stars Destry Abbott, Fred Andrews, Cowboy Kenny Bartram, Randy Hawkins, Kevin Windham, and country star Bucky Covington (whose current uncharacteristically cagey single/video with Shooter Jennings, “Drinking Side of Country,” is in fact currently in the top 5 on CMT Pure’s 12 Pack Countdown) will take part in an exhibition and trail ride in Vanleer, Tennessee.
Then in nearby Dickson on Saturday, fellow country music star and Morgan’s buddy Darryl Worley (known for “Have You Forgotten?,” “Awful Beautiful Life,” “Nothin’ But a Love Thang,” “Sounds Like Life to Me,” “Family Tree,” the haunting “I Miss My Friend,” the smooth-flowing “Tennessee River Run,” and many many more plus most recently the appropriately titled tongue-in-cheekiness of “You Still Got It”) will take the stage in concert with Craig.
Also joining the two on stage to support the Craig Morgan Charity Fund will be HLN Morning Express host and “Brand New Day” singer Robin Meade (whose cover of Don Henley’s “Dirty Laundry” on Brand New Day also features Bo Bice, Kix Brooks, Gary Burr, Sarah Buxton & Victoria Shaw) along with the evening’s emcee, Nan Kelley – a prominent GAC (Great American Country) host and much-loved TV personality (even if the official ticket site misspelled “Kelley”). Word is Nan’s done this kind of thing a time or two. Just ask the Opry. Concert attendees will have the opportunity to bid on live and silent auction items including a pre-owned Volkswagen Passat GLS, a high end MAC Tools chest, plus lots of music, TV, and sports memorabilia.
There’s still a little chicken left on that bone of the weekend though, and all of the above is almost a home run, but just to add a little bit of life and fun – Morgan and friends decided to remind folks what they love about Sunday. So Craig’s corralled a redneck yacht club of sorts and convinced them to dock for another day along with a bunch of clay. In other words, on Sunday the popular Celebrity Sporting Clay Event will take place from the Tennessee Clay Target Complex in Nashville. This year’s event, a 12-station course, will feature an exhibition by “The Ultimate Shooter” Tim Bradley to close out the event. Schedule specifics are stamped out below.
A note to tie-in about another deserving charity, Craig is one of 19 well-known and largely local artists putting their feet in their mouths (or maybe more like the other way around) for ultra-special shoe charity, Soles4Souls on a special one-song cut called “The Choice.” One single download of the song equals a pair of shoes for someone in need. Led by the very much matured Billy Gilman (who co-wrote it), other artists from Alan Jackson to Kenny Rogers, Montgomery Gentry, Diamond Rio, Keith Urban, Rodney Atkins, Reba, Josh Turner, Wynonna Judd, Richie McDonald, Vince Gill, Amy Grant, Kellie Pickler and even more joined in on this song’s path. “Choice” can be downloaded from iTunes here or Amazon here. To listen before buying view the video on YouTube, but please understand this does not donate. Proceeds so far have helped provide shoes to over 30,000 people.
To paraphrase a Morgan song – love remembers. And remember, don’t you leave ’til you see him.
All events are open to the public with tickets on sale at NowPlayingNashville.com, at the door, as well as all TriStar Bank locations in Dickson.
