On Aug. 29, Disney Parks Blog marked the first anniversary of Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa by releasing additional details on upcoming enhancements that are part of the Hawaiian resort’s expansion project.
Included in the Aulani expansion is a family pool themed to and new kids’ splash zone at Waikolohe Valley, the water recreational area that already features a zero-entry pool, lazy river, whirlpool spa, snorkeling lagoon and a children’s interactive play area called Menehune Bridge
The pool will feature a designed inspired by Maui, the demigod whom legend claims brought the Hawaiian islands to the surface with a great fishhook. The design will integrate with the resort’s current theming as, according to Disney’s press release, Aulani’s architecture represents the harmony between masculine and feminine energy. The family pool is located on the resort’s masculine side.
The kids’ splash zone will be designed to look like tidal pools and be filled with whimsical surprises. Children will be delighted by rainbow water jets, creatures on the pool floor and hidden Menehune, the “legendary little people” of the islands that Disney has incorporated throughout Aulani.
The area also will receive more deck space, with additional seating and cabanas, to take advantage of the pool’s location.
Two new food options will be added to the Hawaiian resort, as mentioned in Disney’s previous announcement about Aulani’s expansion. The first quick-service spot, located adjacent to the new water play area and the existing Wailana Pool, offers casual fare with outdoor patio with an ocean view. In addition to its continental breakfast, it will serve lunch and dinner; its menu includes sandwiches, salads and snacks.
The second quick-service dining option, which is a beach-side location, will feature grab-and-go snacks.
The Aulani expansion also includes several smaller changes intended to enhance the resort experience. A larger lawn location will provide more space events, weddings and the nighttime Starlit Hui show. Additional merchandise space will enabled the resort to carry a greater variety of Aulani products. A protective awning will be added to the patio of Makahiki restaurant, the site of the Disney character meal known as “Aunty’s Breakfast Celebration.”
Expansions for Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa begin in September and conclude in mid-2013, taking place at the same time as the resort’s final build-out.
To help guests follow Aulani updates, Disney also officially launched the resort’s official Twitter account on Wednesday. Guests may follow @DisneyAulani for news or visit Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa for more information or to book a vacation.
