Vegetarian diners-about-town may have eaten at Divine Café when it was located downtown or in Northeast Portland, and then wondered what became of the small establishment. Look no further. Divine Café reopened two weeks ago as a cart in Southeast Portland’s Good Food Here cart pod.
Owner Rose Guardino is enthusiastic about her new site. “This location is going to be the best,” she said yesterday in between serving vegetarian sandwiches and tacos.
Before opening the cart in her new SE Belmont location, Guardino spent six years cooking for the National College of Natural Medicine’s staff and students. NCNM is in Southwest Portland, close to the Ross Island Bridge. Working there “taught me more about food than I learned anywhere,” Guardino said.
Her new menu is simple, fresh and delicious. Diners can choose from soup of the day or vegan chili. Three sandwiches are on offer, a barbecue tofu, smoked tofu and a tempeh reuben. Her Mexican-inspired dishes are tacos, taco salad and quesadilla. Vegan shakes and gluten-free cookies round out the menu. While many of the dishes include dairy cheese, vegans can substitute avocado. A single taco costs $2.75, while sandwiches are $7.
Good Food Here is at 4262 SE Belmont.
