What happens when one loses hope? Faith? When the job, the career you’ve had your whole life is suddenly gone, what do you do? When, in the blissfulness of love, a sudden separation or divorce sneaks in and destroys you, leaving you all alone, who do you turn to? When alcohol, drugs, gambling, and the lust of the flesh control your world, how do you stop them? When mom, dad, a child, or a loved one leaves us, how do we repair our soul? When the love you’ve always desired never finds you, how do you continue to live the endless nights of loneliness?
These are just a few of the hopes, the dreams, the questions and the quests that we as human beings struggle with everyday in this our global society. And, regardless of our wealth, our careers, our material possessions, and no matter the race, color, or creed, these quests, these questions, these needs….are universal! For we all want to be loved.
See, hear and EXPERIENCE these questions being answered on stage this November as KreAtiv Inergy presents GOD’S CHILD RETURNS, based on the biblical story of the prodigal son. Written by Mark-Anthony Hines, screenwriter of this fall’s feature-length film, LORETTA, which focuses on one woman’s determination to end a 40-year cycle of familial domestic abuse and violence and bring up her own children in love, GOD’S CHILD RETURNS is about a little boy who rises to the highest of heights in bringing God’s children comfort, his fall from grace, and his redemptive return to his family, his church, and his God.
Starring Jason Louder in the lead as Levi Brown, Jr. (A Raisin in the Sun, To Kill A Mockingbird, Salaam), Cheryl Evette Booker (starring in The Local which closes this Friday, A Raisin in the Sun, independent films It Takes One to Know One and Grandpa’s House), Anita Johnson as Mother Talbert, Jay Isbell as Levi Brown, Sr. (the upcoming Ruth the stage play, written by David Mitchell, A Raisin in the Sun, We Are Family), the multi-talented Dottie Turner as Lady Constance, Adrienne Harris (starring in two productions in September: eMpower’s For Colored Girls, and the original stage play Porch People, A Raisin in the Sun, The Mousetrap), and introducing the hilarious Diamond Cane…the answers, the love, the joy we all long for…are out there waiting for us!
Originally produced in November of 2010 in Riverdale, Georgia with a cast of 15, and now with new scenes and characters, in a recent interview with playwright/producer/director Mark-Anthony, he said, ‘I feel compelled to bring this play back before I do anything of anyone else’s or anything new of mine. Too many people are hurting, too many people are suffering, and too many people are looking for answers to their questions, and for solace. What is outside of us cannot and will not bring us the inner joy, or the inner peace that so many in the world are longing for. It can’t be bought! That solace, that soul-comfort is a higher being. For me, its’ God.’
