It seems inevitable in our modern society that every day some new headline triggers in me an irresistible compulsion to get out my formaldehyde and dissect the subject. I usually dilly-dally for a few days before I actually put my fingers to the keyboard and vent. This story is no exception – slightly stale news, but it still accelerates my pulse rate when I allow my thought processes to dwell on the topic. In this Vent du Jour, I reveal how my new favorite restaurant is Chick Fil-A. The ironic fact here is that I’ve never even seen one. However, you can rest assured when I do encounter one, I’ll be dropping in to Eat Mor Chikin.
In case you’re not familiar with the origin of the Chick Fil-A brouhaha, Dan Cathy of Chick-Fil-A granted an interview to Baptist Press, in which he was asked about his support for traditional families. He responded with: “We are very much supportive of the family — the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that. I think we are inviting God’s judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say ‘we know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage,’ and I pray God’s mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we have the audacity to define what marriage is about.”
As much as I get satisfaction from venting through the written word, I’m still able to realize that there are people who can say the same things on my mind better than I do. Here are a couple of links to editorials where I believe this to be true.
Check out how this household name business worth four billion is the target of a orchestrated attack which aims to destroy it. http://godfatherpolitics.com/6315/homosexuals-show-victimhood-by-seeking-to-utterly-destroy-chick-fil-a/
And to top it off, two mayors have stated they will prevent Chick-Fil-A from opening an establishment in their domain. Check out that story at http://godfatherpolitics.com/6318/liberal-mayors-deny-businesses-the-right-to-operate-in-their-cities/
I guess the new rules for this tug of war between the left and the right is that any businesses that espouse Godly values will not be welcome in the liberal cities. Will conservative leaders respond by vowing to keep out the businesses that support special gay rights? I don’t think so. They might be tempted, but they must realize that in our society, at least for now, the right to conduct business is not limited by religious beliefs or political alignment. Maybe someone can explain that novel concept to the mayors of Boston and Chicago.
The offensive (in the eyes of some) comments were made in an interview to The Baptist Press. I truly believe if some troll had not discovered the quotation and spread it around to the world, these comments would have gone largely unnoticed. How many Baptists read The Baptist Press from cover to cover, much less the rest of the world? However it appears that certain people are surfing all of the seas seeking a discouraging word concerning homosexuality. When they find such a snub, they trumpet it to the world and cry out the “h” word: hate. In addition to not sending out this information via a press release to the general public, the Chick Filet-A spokesman never even referenced homosexuality. He simply said that his organization stands for the one man/one woman concept of holy matrimony instituted by God. That’s it. I see nothing that a person of common sense could construe as hatred.
Let me made this point succinct: regardless of what our screwed up governments do in the future concerning same sex marriage, God will never consider that type of union to be legitimate. He designed us humans in a very special fashion, male and female so that we might propagate and populate the earth. Marriage is an institution He created to symbolize the relationship He has with His people. This is just one more example of how enlightened humans are seeking to worship the human race. Christians who make waves by reminding the world that Daddy is home are splashing water on the humanist parade.
