Guitarist Eddie Van Halen has had to undergo emergency surgery and will be out of action for 4-6 months in recovery.
Due to the surgery, Van Halen will have to reschedule a tour of Japan that the band had scheduled for November.
The band posted the short announcement of the surgery on its website, adding that, “The band looks forward to seeing and playing for their fans in 2013.”
Van Halen is having surgery for “a severe bout of diverticulitis,” a condition that involves pouches of the inner lining of the intestine, most often in the colon, being inflamed or infected. Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, fever and cramping.
The band was touring behind their first album with lead singer David Lee Roth in 28 years, A Different Kind Of Truth.
