“Falling Skies” continued Sunday night on TNT with episode 4, “Young Bloods.” Matt wanted to be more involved in fighting, but that backfired. Meanwhile, Weaver discovered someone he thought lost still alive.
This “Falling Skies” episode began with Matt on his first mission, luring skitters into a trap for Tector and Boon. Meanwhile, Hal and Ben were scouting out a building with steam coming out of it and mechs patrolling. Hal noted Ben was quiet and barely sleeping. He had to put Jimmy’s death behind him. Ben came in handy when two people snuck off with their bikes since he could hear the engines.
In the 2nd Mass’ new camp, Tom brought Anne a Choco Pie, making her smile since she never thought she’d have something like it again. He didn’t either, clearly talking about something else. Lourdes interrupted their kiss. Ben and Hal tracked their bikes, and with Ben set up from above with his gun aimed on the group, the leader Diego had no choice but to stand down when confronted by Hal. The group was all kids, and after Hal offered to give them spare parts, some of them left with the brothers.
Tom found Tector and Boon “celebrating” with Matt after the mission and let them know how angry he was to discover Matt wasn’t a runner, as planned, but set up as bait instead. Though Boon tried to defend their actions, Tector admitted they screwed up. They could’ve missed. Tom sent them to the sanitation crew and told Matt he was sitting out the next few missions. When Hal and Ben returned with the others, Diego’s girl went straight for Weaver. This was Jeanne, his daughter.
While father and daughter had a chance to catch up, Hal and Diego went over a map of the area and what they knew and others kicked a ball around. When Maggie kicked it into Hal, Diego commented on it. Tom talked to Matt and told him his actions weren’t smart. Matt retorted that getting on an alien ship wasn’t either. When Diego went to tell Jeanne they were loading up, he got to meet her father, and after Weaver commented on him, Jeanne said he was just protective.
Jamil watched as Lourdes talked to Diego, asking about Parras because of her family. She found out it was destroyed and brushed off Jamil’s attempt to talk. Diego noticed Matt standing by, and Matt told him about his mission. Hal told Maggie he’s going to get her back as they loaded up and headed out.
They found the warehouse deserted and trashed. Johnny was crying and hiding and told them skitters (chinches) took everyone. They turned the factory into a harness facility, and Ben remembered a holding room and a harnessing chamber from his time in the same situation. While Weaver wanted to plan, Diego wanted to just go leading to the two getting into it. Diego didn’t want to take orders from someone who couldn’t protect his family and ended up going off on his own, telling Matt as he loaded up that there was room for one more.
Tom gave Ben the option of staying behind, but Ben said he was going. Also going was Tector, who told Tom he should’ve have put Matt at risk and wanted to make it right. However, Weaver discovered the others—and Matt—were gone.
Once at the factory, the 2nd Mass fighters split up, heading in with no idea about what they were going to face or how they would get out. Matt came to trapped on a table face down in the harnessing chamber, with a tank of harnesses and Jeanne and Johnny nearby. A skitter walked over to Matt, then Johnny, and a machine began. A harness slithered down, onto Johnny, up his back, and latched on. While some of the fighter found Diego and others in the holding room, the rest arrived in time to save Matt from being harnessed.
They killed the skitter and began freeing the kids. Ben was drawn to the tank of harnesses, and upon putting his hand on it, one swam up. His spikes began glowing, and Hal noticed. Ben shot out the tank, leaving the others to deal with the harnesses as well. One latched onto Weaver’s leg, and Jeanne pulled it off for her father to kill.
Back at camp, Anne gave Weaver antibiotics after bandaging his leg. When Jeanne joined him, he told her he let her down and she deserved better. He wanted to make it up to her, and she said he already did. Diego and the others thought they had a better chance holed up away from the fighting, and Weaver knew she was going to miss Diego. He gave her the compass.
Hal joined Ben on top of the bus and brought up his spikes glowing. Ben said he was mistaken. He was hoping it would just go away and knew no one would understand it since some already thought he killed Jimmy. He didn’t want to “sign [his] own death warrant.” Hal wanted to help, but Ben told him to back off.
Tom put Tector back on sniper duty and told him to keep Boon in line. Jeanne left Weaver a note before leaving with Diego on his bike, explaining she had a life with him and he and others needed her.
