The fifth season of BET’s Sunday Best is off to a fast start with two more contestants booted off of the show narrowing the contestants down to the dynamic six. Faithful fans are creating much buzz around the youngest contestant, Joshua Rogers who is a favorite among the judges and who has already won a huge fan base “Team Joshua.” Although the show has yet to have a male winner, fans are predicting that Joshua will be crowned the next Sunday Best winner.
We first saw Joshua Rogers at the Atlanta auditions and since then he has consistently wowed the judges with his excellent performances. On episode six, Joshua performed “Peace Be Still” by Vanessa Bell-Armstrong. His performance was so impressive that the crowd immediately got out of their seats with celebrity judge Donnie McClurkin to follow. After Josh’s performance, an emotional Donnie McClurkin said to Joshua as tears welled up in his eyes “What you have hasn’t even been seen yet. And the little bit that we’re seeing right now – I just couldn’t be prouder of you.” On episode five, Donnie said to Joshua, “You can outsing me and most of us.” Yolanda Adams told Joshua, “There’s Vanessa Bell Armstrong, there’s Daryl Coley, there’s Kim Burrell and then there’s Joshua.” On the previous episode Yolanda Adams described Joshua’s voice as having vocal maturity of someone twice his age that knows exactly what to do on stage and who gets everybody engaged with what he’s doing. Ce-Ce Winans described his performance in just three words, “Perfect performance. Amazing.”
Even though some fans are already calling Joshua Sunday Best on Facebook, the competition is far from being over. Torrence Glenn, host of Sunday Best: Behind the Stage declared, “The guys are bringing it this season.” It is highly competitive for the guys this season. Fans are even writing on Facebook that a guy is going to win this year. Will the next Sunday Best winner be Joshua Rogers, Ashford Sanders, Michael Lampkin or will it go to one of the ladies – Danetra Moore, Alexis Spight or Kizzy Walker? Sunday Best viewers will have to vote each week for their favorite and wait and see.
The winner will receive a 2011 Ford Explorer, a cash prize and a national recording contract with Music World Gospel!
Tune into BET on Sundays at 8:00 p.m. for the airing of Sunday Best.
