On Tuesday August, 7th, 2012 Locust Projects will present a collaborative project entitled Female Hu$tle (On view through August 25th) by Heather Miller & Rosemarie Romero for the Locust Art Builders, LAB / MFA exhibition program at University of Florida, Gainsville.
Miller and Romero, both current MFA students will present a project engaging ideas of third wave feminism and explore a complex and contradictory dialogue about objectification and identity.
Situated in the front gallery and storefront windows facing North Miami Avenue, Female Hu$tle consists of Miller’s human-scaled sculptural-photographic work Gold/Mirror, a serial representation of the female body painted gold with the face omitted and replaced by a mirror.
Romero’s video and participatory work Porn Nails is a nomadic nail salon providing custom design manicures for women in exchange for conversations in relation to love, sex, and work specific to the geographic region of South Florida.
2012 marks the third year of the LAB program which provides exhibition opportunities to high school students in South Florida.
