“The Vampire Diaries” stars Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev recently visited Comic-Con 2012 this week to talk to fans about the hit vampire show and their latest take on “Fifty Shades.”
In recent “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie news, Ian Somerhalder was inevitably asked this week about his many fans supporting him to be cast as Christian Grey in the big screen adaptation.
According to a video interview and reports from “Gather” this Saturday, the actor and girlfriend revealed they would not decline the casting roles, but their characters on “The Vampire Diaries” show might make it hard for fans to see them cast as Christian and Ana in a believable transition.
Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev on ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ film casting: too much crossover with ‘The Vampire Diaries?’
For some fans at Comic-Con 2012 in San Diego this week, some fans seemed just as interested in questions relating to the bestselling erotic novel, “Fifty Shades of Grey” and its take to the big screen as the hit show, “The Vampire Diaries.”
According to “Gather” this Saturday, while Somerhalder has definitely expressed a desire for the casting role as the sexually dominant billionaire, Christian Grey on Twitter, his girlfriend, Nina Dobrev did note a possible problem with them being cast.
And, of course, Ian Somerhalder had his signature smile and joking attitude with fellow co-star of “The Vampire Diaries,” Paul Wesley.
“I can’t imagine Universal doing that [being cast as Christian Grey], but that would be very interesting,” said Somerhalder in the video. To Paul Wesley, he added, “Would you be my stand in?”
“I’m not pretty enough,” replied Wesley with a laugh.

Unfortunately for some “Fifty Shades of Grey” readers and female fans, girlfriend Nina Dobrev might be taking the handcuffs and Red Room of Pain away from Ian Somerhalder before he has the chance to play Christian Grey in movie theaters.
Dobrev also is part of the striking cast on “The Vampire Diaries,” and the character of Elena revealed she doesn’t think audiences would be able to see past her or Somerhalder’s role in their TV show to see them as Christian or Anastasia Steele in the film.
“I think if people saw us cast in the ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ movie, they would just see Elena and Damon,” she said to “Extra!” in the interview.
It certainly can be difficult to break out of the cast of one mold and into another different character for a similarly sexually heavy role, but Ian Somerhalder may be one who could very well do it.
At this point, who would you like to see play Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele in gifted author EL James’ “Fifty Shades” adaptation?
