Although author EL James has said the actual production of the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie is still far-off, casting for Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele drives one day closer—likely in an Audi—each day as the summer draws on.
In recent “Fifty Shades” news, “Entertainmentwise” revealed this week that “Vampire Diaries” star Ian Somerhalder and “The Notebook” actor Ryan Gosling are two of the fan frontrunners to be cast as Christian Grey. According to the report this Friday, Gosling has actually taken a slight lead over Somerhalder, but if fans could choose who would play Christian, it could go either way at this point.
“Fifty Shades of Grey” movie: Ryan Gosling and Ian Somerhalder neck-and-neck in fan popularity polls
No doubt that each male lead—Ian Somerhalder and Ryan Gosling, that is—are fine actors in their own right. Yet each also have very different looks and skills in front of the camera that might make them solid casting choices to play Christian Grey. At this point at least, it is not known if either of them have interviewed or are in serious consideration for the role with the film producers.
While Somerhalder has often been seen as a fan favorite—and still certainly is—Ryan Gosling has also chained his way to the top. “Entertainmentwise” reported this Friday the 13th that Gosling has even surpassed Somerhalder in the fan polls. The “Drive” actor has odds of 2-to-1, while Somerhalder of “The Vampire Diaries” was just lower at approximately below 5-to-2 odds.
Actor Henry Cavill, who has been confirmed to play the iconic superhero Superman in the 2013 film, “Superman: Man of Steel,” also ranked up high in the polls.
When it’s released, the “Fifty Shades of Grey” film is expected to be a smash hit in the U.S. box office, likely on the level of “Twilight,” “The Hunger Games,” and “Harry Potter.” Women will likely come in droves—especially if their favorite casting choice for “Christian Grey” is to be cast—and Anastasia Steele’s own casting role is not far behind.
According to who may play Anastasia Steele, at least in the fan poll that “Entertainmentwise” reported, Alexis Bledel, Kristen Stewart, Nina Dobrev, Mila Kunis and Scarlett Johansson are all popular picks.
At this point, EL James has not revealed any favorites of her own, although she has been reported to have at least three ideas for who could play Christian Grey in mind as of now. The bestselling author also told fans she would take their input and casting choices into consideration.
No doubt that if (and when) the author at last reveals her favorites for the part, it will play a major deciding role in who will be cast.
Who would you like to see star as the Red Room of Pain-loving billionaire Christian Grey, or as the blue-eyed Anastasia Steele after you’ve read the great and racy book?
