This week was the start of the Nordstrom Anniversary sale, which means some new beauty products hitting stores at great prices. The main item I was interested in was the NARS Joie De Vivire Cheek palette. The new Nordstrom exclusive palette includes Albatross highlighter, Laguna bronzer, and four blushes in Gaiety, Orgasm, Luster, and Angelika.
My first impressions on the NARS Joie De Vivre cheek palette
Right off the bat, I wasn’t the biggest fan of Angelika. I’ve swatched this many times in stores when it first came out with the matching lipgloss and I just didn’t like it. I don’t mind a little shimmer in a blush, but I don’t like glitter. The main reason I wanted this was for Luster blush, Laguna bronzer, and Albatross highlighter. I own a mini Orgasm blush so I knew I’d like it. The only shade I’m on the fence about is Gaiety. It’s a gorgeous bright pink, but it doesn’t seem like it will work well with my skin tone.
When I started swatching the products I noticed how light the swatches were. They were still that buttery smooth texture of the full-size NARS blushes, but they didn’t come off as pigmented. This is something that I’ve noticed with many palettes. The pigmentation is still there on all six blushes, but it’s not quite the same as the regular full-size ones. The only one I had the hardest to get swatched properly was Angelika blush — and Orgasm to an extent.
I applied Laguna bronzer and Orgasm blush on my cheeks and they go on just as smoothly as the full-size products. I skipped the last palette since I knew Casino bronzer would be too dark and Laguna is absolutely perfect for me. While I do prefer Deep Throat blush to Orgasm, this is still a great blush that will really look great on any skin tone.
Nordstrom card holders can purchase the palette now, while non-card holders can purchase the palette starting July 20, 2012. Get this palette as soon as you can since it’s bound to sell out once the sale is open to everyone.

Would I recommend the palette: Absolutely. This is the perfect palette for beginners. If you’re just starting out as a makeup artist, this is definitely something you will want to add to your kit.
