This weekend marks the seventh year of Osheaga Music Festival in Montreal, QC. It’s three days of fun in the sun – though apparently this year will be rain – with bands galore, ranging in genre from indie, to alternative to electronic and even hip hop. This year’s lineup includes The Black Keys, City and Colour, The Weeknd, Snoop Dogg, Garbage, and Florence + the Machine.
Florence + the Machine came out with arguably one of the best albums last year entitled Ceremonials. A follow up to their debut release Lungs, it was louder and heavier, but equally moving. Lead singer Florence Welch’s voice is a force to be reckoned with and their sound worthy of its own genre. They hit the Osheaga stage on Friday August 3rd, and are in Toronto Thursday, August 2nd for a live show at the Molson Amphitheatre. Unfortunately, tickets have been sold out for months. However, as luck may have it, Florence + the Machine being the kind souls that they are, have decided to play a free show at Sugar Beach on Thursday at 6:30p.m. prior to their gig later that evening. The event is hosted by radio station 102.1 the Edge and will be a great way to kick start the long weekend.
Osheaga takes place from August 3rd-August 6th at Parc Jean-Drapeau on Saint Helen’s Island, an island in the St. Lawrence River, neighbouring Montreal. It’s Canada’s version of Lollapalooza, which is also going on this weekend in Chicago, and where you have yet another opportunity to catch Florence + the Machine on Sunday August 5th. Three day passes to Osheaga are sold out, but there are still a few single day tickets available – but move quickly, the festival is only three days away.
