This week’s Friday tastings are varied in selected wines to taste, with white wine appearing much more than is usual.
Great Wine Buys is moving their tasting to a festival area, just up the street, so if you are in an “open air” mood head over to 15th, or so, and NE Broadway.
Please take time to look over all of the offerings, as it’s extremely varied, and is ripe for attending multiple tastings!
Always try to “taste” wine, rather than drink wine at these special Friday tastings. These are opportunities to learn more about what you like in wine, not only that you like or do not like a particular taste. What you like includes aspects such as, is the wine heavy, or light, or maybe too thin? Is the wine”hot” tasting, and/or, do you like smooth buttery finish or clean crisp? These considerations are as wide and varied as your own sense of taste and what you discover…. It never ends!!!
Remember to be safe, and enjoy!

Bastille Day Uncorked: Let Them Drink Wine!
In honor of Bastille Day, when that fortress-prison in Paris was stormed, we toast to some Revolutionary winemaking, or at least winemaking that’s being done outside the normal “box” of French wine regions that we’re used to.
And we’ll discover some pretty striking wines in the process.

“While my palate tends toward excess salivation at the thought of French chardonnay, the prospect of an evening of passionately made Provençal red wine from the Rhone Valley, the spot that is probably my favorite wine drinking destination in the world, sends that and all my other senses into orbits of giddy pleasure. Given the choice of places to live in the world, a house in Provence, however cliché, sounds pretty darn nice. When you add copious amounts of these character-driven and absolutely delicious reds it seems the perfect thing. Tomorrow’s tasting is going to cover a huge swath of the Provençal landscape, and the wines we’l be showing off are simply stunning across the board, for their wild, intense flavors and the values offered. I am convinced that dollar-for-dollar at all price levels the Rhone Valley is the place to drink for bang for your wine slurping buck. Come taste for yourselves and prepare to be transported by these sensual delights….”
