This gift guide is for your little Jake and the Never Land Pirates fans. My son (3 years) and daughters (6 and 5 years) are all mega fans of this show (and it’s music!) My three little buckaneers are planning on being Jake, Izzy and the Pirate Princess for Halloween this year, with plans for Daddy to be Captain Hook and Mommy to be a mermaid. So they are all about this pirate crew.
The folks with Disney consumer products sent us Jake and the Never Land Pirates Jake’s Musical Pirate Ship Bucky and Jake and the Never Land Pirates Hook’s Adventure Rock, both by Fisher Price, to check out to see what we thought. We also downloaded the new free Jake and the NeverLand Pirates – Pirate School iPhone/iPad app and had to include it here, because it is so cool too. And if your crew doesn’t have the previously released Jake soundtrack, that is a must-own too – the songs are actually fun for adults. (I find myself singing Hot Lava and Aw, Coconuts all day.)
My son had been eyeing Bucky the ship at Target as soon as it hit the shelves this summer. He was so excited for one to arrive at the house. This swashbuckling pirate ship rocks and rolls when pushed (preferably with the show’s soundtrack playing, according to my kids). Bucky comes with a figurine of Jake, of course, and Skully. The Tic Toc Croc is hiding in the lower compartment of the ship that opens when one of the deck buttons are pushed. There’s another button that sings songs and says pirate phrases, just like Bucky does in the show my kids report. The set also comes with pretend water fireballs that fire from the ship’s cannon. (They aren’t tiny balls, instead they look like sticks with a ball at the end, which makes them safer for houses with littler ones, but I still wouldn’t keep them around if you have babies that put things in their mouths around.) There’s also a slide for the figures to slide down. The back of the boat’s captain’s quarters open up to put Jake and Skully (and other figurines if you buy them) inside.
Watch a video of Bucky in action and check out other toys in this line including Izzy, which is a must add in my house.
Captain Hook’s hideout is a good addition to the Bucky (if grandma and grandpa are also looking to add a to your collection at a birthday or holiday time and you’ve already bought Bucky and extra figurines to play with to complete the crew). It comes with a Hook figurine, of course! The Adventure Rock is sort of like a boy’s dollhouse, as my daughter pointed out. My son, in particular, thinks its cool. Hook can ride on the mast crane to the platforms of Adventure Rock. As the crane turns, the rock face moves up and down to “come alive.” On the topp is a “wrecked ship” that teeters to and fro. The platforms have buttons that release trap doors – watch out Jake and Izzy! Hook’s lair also has a cannon and “water bomb” projectiles, like Bucky.
While you’re in Jake’s world, there is a new free Jake and the NeverLand Pirates – Pirate School iPhone/iPad app that is a must download for your little pirate fans too. It lets you steer Bucky, fly as Izzy and more… and it even lets you use a photo of your little buckaneer’s face as the animated pirate in the games. It’s a must have- and it’s 100% free!
