Former GOP candidate from Georgia Newt Gingrich is on a campaign trail in Virginia today on behalf of his one-time rival, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.
Gingrich, who ran for president against Romney in the Republican primary, is headlining one of 18 Romney events that are taking place Monday, all part of the “We Did Build This” initiative in 12 states.
“We Did Build This” is a response to President Barack Obama’s comments from two weeks ago when he alluded that business owners shouldn’t attribute all of their success to themselves:
“If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive,” said the President at an event in Roanoke, VA. “Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.”
Gingrich will attend the event at Belmont TV in Arlington, VA, at 1.30 p.m. EDT. The former Speaker of the House will be joined by Ken Sickmen, owner of Belmont TV.
All 18 events are supposed to provide a platform for small business owners who would like to respond to President’s comments.
