“Grey’s Anatomy” will return to Channel 15 in Tempe this fall, and now fans are being given more inside scoop on how the ninth season will begin. On Saturday, July 28, Entertainment Weekly shared the latest comments from Shonda Rhimes about the cast shake-up with Eric Dane being the most recent departure, and she teases some details about the first two episodes. if you missed any of the previously released photos or spoilers for this series, go here.
Things will be drastically different when season nine premieres. Lexie is dead, Mark will leave after two episodes, and things are looking bleak for Arizona Robbins, played by Jessica Capshaw, as well. Rhimes said the following about Dane’s departure and how it will play out at the start of the season, according to Entertainment Weekly:
“When we start the season, we are ahead enough in time where we see the outcome of lots of things. And in the second episode of the season, there’s rewind — we go backwards — to where they’re still in the forest. So you see what happened and in the next episode, you see how we get there. That was a really great experiment for us, and we think it turned out really really well.”
Mark will appear in the first two episodes, but Rhimes teases that his appearance will not mean he does live. His departure will impact many at Seattle Grace, and it will not be taken lately. As for Derek, he will have severely damaged his hand in the plane crash, and it will not be able to perform surgery. Rhimes said the following, according to From Inside The Box:
“We’re going to watch what happens to a doctor who can temporarily no longer perform surgery. This is really, very clearly who you blame when your hand is injured like this. And what do you do and how do you overcome this? Derek is being pretty heroic about it, which is interesting.”
While the characters have gone through a tragedy with the plane crash, the event will make them stronger. Expect to see more of Alex and Jackson after Mark’s departure. Fans are buzzing about this series on social media. One fan said the following on Twitter recently:
#GreysAnatomy and #Glee are both going to be on Thursday at 9 EST . I seriously think I’m going to die!!
