It’s hard to remember that 4 years ago, a little company called Coulomb Technologies with serious credentials decided to embark upon a fantastic voyage on a sea of speculations and unproven business practice. The electric car recharging station ChargePoint was created.
I walked into the small building housing the then brand new Coulomb Technologies engineers working on the futuristic shaped ChargePoint and its underlying technology. That was 3 years ago, after hearing about the company’s amazing foray into this new and unknown universe of electric car charging stations. 4 years later, Coulomb Technologies is a well-established leader, well on track to a solid future in the electric car, EV and plug-in hybrid, PHEV world.
The ChargePoint Challenge. In many ways, Coulomb Technologies is what makes our country great. A bunch outside-the-box-thinkers get together and tackle a problem. In Coulomb Technologies’ case, the problem wasn’t even clearly defined and the company managed to become a solid player. While Coulomb Technologies enjoys a slow switch to managing energy and transactions, all started with the advent of its ChargePoint.
The New ChargePoint 4.0. While the casing hasn’t changed much, the interior and interface have grown up. Coulomb Technologies is currently unveiling its new ChargePoint 4.0 at the Plug-In 2012 show in San Antonio, Texas at booth 215.
According to Pat Romano, president and CEO of Coulomb Technologies: “The introduction of ChargePoint 4.0 marks a major milestone for ChargePoint. ChargePoint 4.0 is the ideal charging solution for employers, retailers, hotels, municipalities, parking services, multiple dwelling units, fleets, and utility companies looking for ways to increase traffic flow to their businesses, provide new value to employees, and differentiate themselves from competitors. For electric vehicle drivers, ChargePoint 4.0 is the easiest, most convenient way to charge your EV, with thousands of public charging stations, intuitive driver dashboards, convenient ways to pay for charging, 24×7 driver support and valuable driver services.”
Technically Speaking. The new ChargePoint shows an enhanced user interface design and website with a revised online dashboard and a new corporate logo. With an easier online system, station owners can now provide access to all station data and metrics through their dashboards. They will now easily view personal, organization and network-wide statistics, recent usage, real-time availability of stations, as well as real-time charging data for public or home chargers.
Another great feature is the new ChargePoint Connections. Retailers, hotels, restaurants and other parking operators can use the ChargePoint Connections feature as a way to attract and retain new customers. By enabling the sending of special offers, messages and discounts via email, text message or mobile alerts, ChargePoint Connections facilitate easy and convenient access.
With multi-site deployment support features, as well as a revised pricing structure, simplified workflows and administration, the new ChargePoint 4.0 also adds Advanced Analytics to the deal. Congratulation Coulomb technologies on the 4th Birthday of your ChargePoint.
