School starts back up in less than one month for most Houston area districts, and that means that, soon, parents will be rushing around to make sure school clothes and supplies are in hand prior to the big day. To avoid overspending on back to school items, make sure you do not wait until the last minute, and try out a few of these tips to help you stay within budget.
Check out Children’s Resale Shops – There are many resale and thrift shop around the Houston area. You can buy great brand name items for a fraction of the price! Check out stores like Young & Restless and Goodwill for great prices on clothes for your little ones. No one has to know that they are second hand, and if they do, it tells them you’re a savvy shopper!
Consign Last Year’s Clothes – It’s a pretty safe bet to say that your children have outgrown the clothes they wore last year. Before you head out to the local consignment/resale shops, call for an appointment to consign some clothes. This way, when they sell your little one’s clothes, you’ll have a credit toward clothing that fits!
Shop Clearance Sales – You don’t have to wait until all of the major stores have their back to school sales. You can start shopping now, and get ahead of the game by shopping clearance racks. Most jeans and shorts are timeless, so you do not have to worry about last year’s styles not being “cool”.
Search the Dollar Stores – Many of the supplies on your school lists can be found at your area dollar stores. Oftentimes, you can find them cheaper, and you do not have to fight the crowds.
Check out the Deals – Take a look at deal sites like Groupon or even Amazon for discounted deals.
Shop Early and During the Week – If you wait until the last minute and on a weekend to shop for clothes and supplies, you’ll run into crowds which forces you to rush, grab, and go. If you shop during the weekday (if you’re able) while most parents are at work, you’ll be able to take your time comparing prices and not settling for what is left over.
