Diello, an icon in the fight to unchain dogs, was assaulted and seriously injured recently and his guardian is asking for help to get justice against his attacker. To fully comprehend the horror, one must first understand the adversity Diello has already had to endure. Diello spent the first 12 years of his life chained outside 24/7 at a home in the Bronx on a three foot chain. Diello went deaf and his body was riddled with tumors from years of neglect and suffering. It took two years for Kristie Hendricks, the New York state representative of Dogs Deserve Better to rescue him. Dogs Deserve Better is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to freeing chained dogs and bringing them into homes and families through education, rescue, rehabilitation, grass-roots legislation and fencing programs. Once rescued, Diello went to live with Victoria Goodwin, who has since provided him with a loving home. Victoria volunteers for a large special needs rescue and spends her days networking, re-homing, fostering, and transporting blind/deaf dogs on death row from all around the country.View photos of Diello at the slideshow link above, as well as a can’t miss video of Diello’s rescue story below.
Although everyone thought Diello had finally found peace after his early years of horror, this terminally ill dog was assaulted in his home on July 9th. A so called “friend” named Huseyin Kamil (aka Jato James) was at Vitoria’s house and kicked Diello when she turned her back, sending Diello flying across the room to where she was standing. He sustained serious injuries and is still in significant pain. The man that kicked Diello stated he hated him touching him with his wet nose and to keep him away. Victoria kicked him out, and intended to hang posters warning people what kind of person he was and unfortunately sent some pretty threatening messages to him. As a result, Kamil went to the police, and although they were very helpful and sympathetic after seeing Victoria’s evidence, since she threatened/harassed him, they recommended she not file charges.
Fortunately, Diello has been to several vets and is in good hands. Those that care about the dog are now demanding justice for him. His attacker is apparently still working at a “pet-friendly” hotel in Hershey, Pennsylvania. A petition has been started that asks the hotel to terminate Kamil, which would revoke his visa and send him back to his own nation of Turkey. It also asks that the hotel rethink their hiring practices for the safety of all pets that stay at this Hampton Inn.
