According to insiders actor Hugh Laurie (House, Mr. Pip) will not be playing one of the most famous roles in the remake of Robocop, the evil Ceo of OCP. Instead the studio seems to have nailed down actor Michael Keaton (Mr. Mom, Batman, Beetlejuice).
According to Deadline, director Jose Padilha released a statement that Michael is,”The final addition to the amazing cast we have assembled for this film and it is so great to have the last puzzle piece in place.”
The original Robocop was a 1987 Paul Verhoeven sci-fi film set in a near future Detroit. The city, financially ruined with crime on the rise, decides to turn to technology for a little help. The corporation OCP, now in a contract to run the police department develops the the first robot to deal with crime but when it goes haywire they try a cyborg tech instead. When veteran cop Alex Murphy is killed in the line of duty OCP utilizes his parts to make the first Robocop.
Originally written by Edward Neumeier and Michael Miner, in this remake written by James Vanderbilt (The Amazing Spiderman, Zodiac) and Nick Schenk (Grand Torino) Keaton will take over the role actor Dan O’Herlihy made famous. the film is set to hit theaters summer of 2013.
