Baltimore is motoring up for the 2012 Baltimore Grand Prix (BGP) that will zoom through the streets of the Inner Harbor next weekend. From Friday, August 31, 2012, through Sunday, September 2, 2012, the IndyCars will be competing in the second annual BGP.
This year’s event is organized by Race On, LLC that has partnered with Andretti Sports Marketing to co-produce, market and promote the event. The new group took over the BGP planning and development after the first-year organizers failed to pay bills and meet other commitments promised to the City of Baltimore and the State of Maryland.
Although Michael Andretti and his team are full speed ahead for next week events, it seems some of the problems surrounding last year’s BGP were resolved this week. According to the Baltimore Business Journal, the Maryland comptroller’s office received payment for outstanding debt for last year’s inaugural event organized by the now defunct Baltimore Racing Development. On Thursday, August 23, 2012, a lien on the assets of the members of the BRD was released.
Last year, Will Power took the inaugural trophy. Check out the slideshow above to see the awesome cars, the race course, the victory ceremony including race fan, Colin Powell, and the interesting visual perspective of Baltimore during the BGP.
