The iPhone 5 will soon make its entry into the smartphone market and the expectation is enormous. Apple has lagged behind its main competitor, Samsung, who recently seized the leadership position with its Galaxy S3. However, Samsung is far from being the only competitor to Apple: Sony, HTC, Nokia … the list goes on and these companies offer new smartphones with amazing features and rather well done designs. The smartphone market is attracting more and more brands and all wish to bite some market share from Apple. Recently, LG has revealed its new LG Optimus G, which has some very impressive features.
It has been several days since LG created buzz with its new smartphone and it was only yesterday that the company has revealed some of its new features. The South Korean ccompany has recently announced its new quad-core chip clocked at 1.5 Ghz, with an Andreno 320 graphics processor. This chip is called APQ8064 SoC, for the computer enthusiasts, and comes from the Snap Dragon Pro S4 family. The chip has shown a very high performance according to the first analysis, and it has also been tested by Qualcomm which yielded surprising results.
In addition to having a very powerful chip, the Optimus G is equipped with a new generation of touch screen technology. The “in-cell” technology of the new iPhone 5 has often been talked about, but the technology of the LG smartphone’s screen is not the same. However, it comes very close, since it was found that the glass layer of the screen is integrated into the touch layer thereby reducing its thickness. The principle is the same, only the name changes since LG has named this technology “G2 Touch Display”, which means that the screen is lighter and thinner. In fact, the screen is very thin (only 3 mm thick) and the quality of the display is also envied, since it has 317.6 dpi and a screen resolution of 1280 × 768 pixels. The screen size is about 4.7 inches, 0.7 inches longer than the new iPhone 5 if you believe the rumors.
LG has promised that the Optimus G will destroy the iPhone 5. It has 2 GB RAM and a powerful battery which has a capacity of 2100 mAh. In addition, the 13 megapixels camera of this smartphone looks to challenge the iPhone 5.
The LG Optimus is well equipped to confront the market leaders. This smartphone is slightly thinner than the Galaxy S3 at 8.45 mm, but is heavier weighing in at 145 grams versus 133 grams for Samsung Galaxy S3. Also, you would think that LG would opt for the Jelly Bean operating system, but the South Korean’s chose Android 4.0.
Japan and Korea will be the first to get this powerful device in September. The launch of this new smartphone in the U.S. is expected to occur in late 2012, after the iPhone 5. It is hoped that the iPhone 5 will feature characteristics that are equivalent or better, but this may be difficult.
