James Holmes was charged with 142 counts of murder in the Colorado shooting massacre that killed 12 people and injured 58 others during a screening of “The Dark Knight Rises.”
The 24-year-old who opened fire on innocent victims in an Aurora, Colorado movie theater less than two weeks ago will face 1st degree murder charges along with and 116 counts of attempted murder. In addition to those charges, the Colorado shooter is charged with one count of possessing an explosive device and one count of a violent crime.
Holmes appeared at Aurora District Court Monday morning to hear a judge read him the charges. For the first time he spoke and reportedly answered in a soft tone of “yes” when he wanted to waive his right to preliminary hearing within 30 days.
James Holmes still had the bright orange hair he was seen with last week in his first court appearance. The man who identified himself as the “Batman” villain, “Joker,” has no remorse for the crimes he committed.
Whether prosecutors are seeking the death penalty Holmes remains undecided. His next court appearance is August 9.
