“The X Factor” U.K. 2009 winner Joe McElderry has announced two concerts in England to celebrate the release of his fourth album, “Here’s What I Believe,” a collection of original pop songs and traditional cover tunes that will go on sale in the U.K. on September 17, 2012. Meanwhile, he responded on Twitter to insults that were leveled at him by N-Dubz member Dappy in Dappy’s solo song “I’m Coming (Tarzan 2).”
Here are details of the two concerts:
September 18, 2012: Newcastle, England – Mill Volvo Tyne Theatre
September 20, 2012: London, England – St James’s Church

As previously reported, hip-hop star Dappy (real name: Dino Constovalos) verbally slammed several “X Factor” stars, including McElderry, in “I’m Coming (Tarzan 2).” In the song’s lyrics, Dappy makes fun of McElderry for being one of the “X Factor” U.K. winners who have been dropped from Simon Cowell’s record company. In the music video for the song, someone wearing a Joe McElderry mask portrays McElderry in a mocking manner. Dappy and his N-Dubz band mate/cousin Tulisa Contostavlos (who is a judge on “The X Factor” U.K. but not mentioned in the song) have been feuding on Twitter over the song.
On July 3, 2012, McElderry tweeted: “@thedappy soo im hearing i’m mentioned in your song!! Guess this is the closest were getting to collabarating!!! Hahahaha.”
As part of his “X Factor” grand prize, McElderry won a record deal with Syco Music, which is co-owned by “The X Factor” executive producer Simon Cowell and Sony Music. The label released his first single (2009’s “The Climb”) and his first album (2010’s “Wide Awake”).
McElderry was dropped from Syco in 2011, after “Wide Awake” failed to reach gold certification in the U.K. He then went on to win the 2011 edition of “Popstar to Operastar.” Shortly after winning on the show, he signed to Decca Records (a Universal Music label), which released his second album (“Classic”) and third album (“Classic Christmas”) in 2011. According the the British Phonographic Industry, sales for “Classic” in the U.K. are double the sales for “Wide Awake” (an estimated 200,000 for “Classic,” compared to about 100,000 for “Awake”). In late 2011, McElderry also did a successful headlining tour of the U.K. theatres.
On February 25, 2012, McElderry and “Britain’s Got Talent” 2011 winner Jai McDowell headlined the JapaNOISE concert, a charity event at the Sage Gateshead in England, to raise money for the victims of the 2011 Japan earthquake/tsunami.
In May 2012, made a guest appearance in the “Street of Dreams” stage musical.
July 10, 2012 update: McElderry has been added to the lineup of Perez Hilton’s “One Night in London” event that will be held July 13, 2012, at Electric Brixton in London. Cher Lloyd (who came in fourth place on “The X Factor” U.K. in 2010) is another performer at the event.
