Call it picking, harvest, fall, autumn back-to-school, or whatever you would like, but this here in the midwest is Apple season. Our families at Edwards Orchard are open with raspberries and apples! The harvest schedule includes Gingergold, Early Beauty, Gala, and Blondee apples ready in the Apple Barn. Unfortunately, their entire apple crop will have to be used to make their cider and supply the store. There are not enough apples to allow “pick-your-own” this year. However, if pickin’ is your thing, c’mon out and pick raspberries and beginning September 21 you can “pick-your-own” pumpkins! Not to worry, the warm cider donuts are plentiful!!
Other favorite apple varieties available are Jonamac and McIntosh apples. September 12 brings in the Honeycrisp, Jonathan, Empire, and Jonagold. Autumn Beauty, Golden Delicious, Red Delicious, and Early Fuji will follow September 19 and if you want Late Fuji or Granny Smith you’ll have to wait until October 10. Not to worry, the warm cider donuts are available all season.
Remember, an apple a day…. and remember your teachers and bring them an apple! Be sure to visit Edwards Orchard! Open 7 days a week until Thanksgiving Weekend 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Bring the kids there’s a playground, a maze, a farm museum, pony rides, horse/mule pulled wagon rides, and a petting zoo. 7061 Centerville Road in Poplar Grove. Oh, and did I mention the warm cider donuts?
