Late yesterday, the Department of Defense announced the death of a Joint Base Lewis-McChord soldier who was supporting Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.
Sgt. Louis R. Torres, 23, of Oberlin, Ohio, died Aug. 22, 2012, in San Antonio, Texas, of wounds suffered when he encountered an enemy improvised explosive device, Aug. 6, in Kandahar, Afghanistan.
Cleveland.com reports that shortly after graduating from Lorain County Joint Vocational School in 2008, Torres joined the Army. While he was at the vocational school he took classes in law enforcement and was on the school’s football team.
Torres was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 3rd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash.
There has been no information from Sgt. Torres family regarding funeral services.
