The place to be July 4th is at the American Colony Committee Celebration located in the Central Valley at the Cerveceria, Costa Rica. See information on parking and directions on the American Colony website.
The hours are from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Admission fee is $10 for Adults and $6.00 for Children age 10 and under.
Admission is limited to all U.S. Citizens, their immediate family and their Tico guests. In fact this year, all U.S. citizens are encouraged to bring a Costa Rican friend to the picnic, to share in the experience of a good old fashioned 4th of July celebration.
From 9:00 until 1:00 enjoy a wide variety of food from bagels and cream cheese to hotdogs and cotton candy. Listen to the various bands playing throughout the venue.
Children can see the juggling/magic show and participate in a wide variety of age appropriate games, such as the “Yankee Doodle Potato Race” or the “George Washington Wheelbarrow Race.”
There will be service tents representing a wide variety of groups such as the American Legion, Democrats and Republicans Abroad, the U.S. Consulate, the Peace Corp and the Little Theatre Group of Costa Rica.
At 11:00 there will be a Flag-Raising Ceremony with our United States Marines. The University of Costa Rica Band will be there to play both the U.S. and Costa Rica National Anthems. Anne S. Andrew, the U.S. Ambassador will address the crowd. Then there will be the Parade of flags.
