Looking for a something to do this Labor Day? On Saturday, September 1, 2012 consider a guided tour of the Kampong, the 11-acre botanical garden and historic waterfront estate on Biscayne Bay in Coconut Grove. The lush grounds are a favorite for nature lovers.
Locals and tourists alike will enjoy the walking tour, which provides a behind-the-scenes peek into the private house and gardens that plant explorer David Fairchild built. It’s something to behold, all the exotic flora and fauna will entice you and bring forth an appreciation of the South Florida vegetation.
“Spend your Labor Day outside, taking advantage of the gorgeous South Florida weather,” said Ann Parsons, Director of The Kampong. “Guests are welcome to bring a picnic to enjoy on the grounds after their tour.” The scenery is amazing, the unobstructed views of Biscayne Bay bring a sense of going back in time, the same views were experienced 100 years ago.
Tours run most Saturdays and Wednesdays from September to June. Reservations are required – please go to kampong.ntbg.org to reserve your spot or call 305-442-7169 for more details (limited spaces available). Gates open at 10:00 AM, and the 2-hour tour begins at 10:30 AM.
Tour fee is $20 for adults, $15 for ages 62 and over and students with ID, $10 for children 4-12 years, and free for children 3 and under (accompanied by adult).
