Labor Day weekend is upon us and Phoenix and the surrounding areas offer plenty of activities to have some fun and unwind.
If you’re ready to head out of town “Everyone’s Favorite Hometown”, Prescott, is a quick drive away. The Courthouse Square will be brimming with vendors with arts and crafts, food and unique clothing for the annual Faire on the Square; September 1 -3, Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Stroll the downtown area with the family, dogs included, and relax in the shade of the towering trees encompassing the park.
In downtown Phoenix, you can keep the kids in their back-to-school mode by cooling off at the Arizona Science Center in the Heritage and Science Park on the northwest corner of 7th and Washington Streets. The newest exhibit, LEGO® Travel Adventure is located within the Freeman Gallery. Kids of all ages can unleash their creativity by building flying, floating or driving vehicles of all kinds. Mountains, oceans and jungles come to life on an exotic travel adventure. It’s your last chance to catch the The MathAlive! Exhibit and see how math affects our daily lives in sports, fashion, video games and more. This exhibit shows the reality of how math is integral to all that we do. The center is open from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. daily. 602-716-2000
Or take a drive to Fountain Hills and watch one of the tallest fountains in the country deliver its momentous spiral into the air for 15 minutes at the beginning of each hour from 9 a.m.- 9 p.m.. The park surrounding the fountain is the ideal site for children to play, walk your dog, golf, shop or eat. The splash park is a welcome place to cool off as a bucket of water drenches your skin or you succumb to the spray of a giant snake. The grassy lawns invite the ducks to your picnic and rolling in the lush greens brings out the child in all of us.
