When one first meets Linda Bennett they cannot help but feel happy. This bubbly, happy, loving woman is Animal Rescue Foundation, Illinois’ (ARF-IL) Director of Marketing.
Mrs. Bennett and her husband Jeff initially adopted two cats from ARF in August of 2009, 24 years after ARF was founded. Liking what she saw, she began volunteering in their cat center in December of 2010. From there the ball began rolling.
Seeing a need, Linda began writing and producing marketing materials in March of 2011 and from there became the Director of Marketing in April of 2012. This whirlwind of a mentor to many is filled with knowledge and on top of it, she and her husband are so very loving that they serve as back-up foster parents to both cats and kittens during the kitten season or if there just happens to be an overflow of cats coming into the organization (which seems to happen quite frequently).
Why do ambitious women such as Linda Bennett get involved with animals in such a fashion? Linda answered that question quickly and readily, stating that she has been supporting animal rescue groups on a financial basis since graduating from college. After adopting the two felines from ARF-IL and meeting some of their volunteers, Linda felt that it was time to up the ante and get involved in a more physical way.
Just like many people think when beginning a volunteer job with animals, Bennett also thought that it would be difficult for her to work with rescue cats; feeling sad for the cats that needed homes. Being a part of the team helping to place the felines made it all worthwhile to Linda. She changed her perspective and just knew that even though she did not have a ton of time to give (Linda currently works full time and is getting another Masters Degree), that even a few hours a week can make a huge difference to an animal that would be otherwise homeless.
Cat volunteers clean and refill bowls and litter boxes and wash out and freshen-up their crates. The best part though is getting to play with all of the furry friends. Linda has made it her main job as a cat center volunteer to cuddle and play with all of the cats (not just the kittens) so that they know what love feels like.
Just like Linda, many people she comes into contact with state that, “I could never do what you do.” But, Bennett being her uplifting and kind self reminds them that they do not have to; that there are many other ways for animal lovers to help out a rescue. ARF-IL is in constant need of people to make phone calls, answer emails, handle follow-up paperwork, support and help out at adoption events and raise awareness. If none of that is possible, they can always help out financially by donating products or cash so that rescues like ARF-IL can purchase what they need for the animals that they rescue.
Thank you Linda Bennett for helping cats and kittens find their forever homes!
