On August 31, 2012, the newest Diamond’s Billiards, where Jillians used to be, will play host to the funk rock band (hed) pe along with Elephant Room, The Rezidue and Boombox Poets. This show is one in a long line of great concerts put together by Terry Harper Productions.
Hailing from Huntington Beach, California, (hed) pe has been funkin’ it up since 1994. The group blends punk rock with hip hop, rapcore, alternative rock and hardcore punk into a style that’s been dubbed “G-Punk”. (hed) pe has released 8 studio albums and one live album. The band was formed by Jared Gomes and Wes Geer.
Their self-titled debut album came out in 1997 on Jive Records. (hed) pe’s subsequent albums “Broke” (2000) and “Blackout” (2003) were fairly well received. Most of their recordings throughout their middle career have not been as popular overall. (hed) pe released its most recent album “Truth Rising” in 2010.
The band has toured with superstars like Korn, Static X and System of a Down! They have cited artists such as the Beastie Boys, Bob Marley, Black Sabbath, Nine Inch Nails, Notorious B.I.G. and Rage Against the Machine as some of their influences. Fans can expect to hear songs like “Bartender”, “Blackout”, “Other Side”, “Get Ready”, “Suffa”, “Renegade”, “Stand Up”, “Killing Time”, “Represent”, “The Meadow” and “No Rest For the Wicked”.
Opening this show are 3 local Louisville acts that are similar in sound. These include Elephant Room, The Rezidue and Boombox Poets. Formed in 2010, Elephant Room fuses alternative hip hop, rock, heavy metal and crunk. They’ve toured with stars like Tech N9ne, the Wu-Tang Clan and Sublime (modern version). They are well known for their live shows! Fans can expect to hear songs like “The Movement”, “I’m Ill” and “Commin’ in Hot”.
The Rezidue, also from Louisville, have drawn comparisons to classic rap acts like A Tribe Called Quest, Mos Def and De La Soul. They perform mostly rap and hip hop music. Fans can hope to hear tunes like “Jellybean”, “Carry”, “Vibe Wid Us” and “Grain of Sand”. Last, but not least, is the Boombox Poets. Hailing from Louisville, the group mixes hip hop, rap and alternative rock. The band was formed in 1999 by its only members Mike Burch & Josh French. They have been likened to Yelawolf, Eminem and Rehab in style. Fans can hope to hear songs like “Through My Window”, “Tail Lights” and “Rumor Has It”.
This event takes place at the new Diamond’s Billiards located at 630 Barret Avenue where Jillians used to exist. This is a “21 7 Over” show and tickets are just $15.00 each.
